Maison Sajou haberdashers have been leaders in making quality threads in Europe for centuries. The name, Fil au Chinois, dates back to the beginning of the 19th century and is a legendary brand of sewing thread manufactured in the north of France. It was named in accordance with the popular orientalism of the time fuelled by expeditions to Egypt, colonisation and opening trade markets with the East. People were fascinated by the exotic, faraway lands and imported goods from Asia. The idea was a success as it permitted the creation of an easily identifiable and now legendary logo - still being used today.
